Volunteering opportunity

Get involved in Glasgow's First World War project.

News image

Council logo The First World War raged across the globe between 1914 and 1918, taking the lives of millions of people. Every community within the UK was touched by this tragedy in some way. The UK Centenary Commemorations began on August 4th 2014 and seek to remember the sacrifice of that generation. Following the close of the war in 1918 many communities, clubs, factories and congregations for example erected war memorials. Our volunteering opportunity focuses on Glasgow's war memorials.

We are looking for volunteers to take part in a project photographing and recording the condition of some of these memorials across the City. Another group will research the history of each memorial and others will seek to identify individuals named on the memorials. The project work will follow initial training in the Mitchell Library, Glasgow. The programme will run from May 6th to October 7th 2015.
